With a 2.5% cut in VAT due from Monday, garden centre retailers have been given a solution to their VAT woes.
Greenfingers have created a simple scheme with a
specially provided free piece of POS that encourages their customers to donate the 2.5% cut in VAT to charity.
“It’s a win-win situation that they will be able to implement this weekend ready for Monday,” said Greenfingers treasurer John Little, of Poplars Garden Centre.
The idea is give customers a simple choice at the tills – either donate the VAT cut to Greenfingers charity, or receive a 2.5% discount.
The GCA and HTA both agree it’s a good idea, and are in the process of promoting it to their members.
“It was very clear when the Government decided to introduce this VAT cut that it represents a big problem for garden centres,” said John. “ It could be a nightmare for them at the tills.”
“We’re making it very easy for garden centres as they do not have to change their prices AND they will be seen to be helping out charities, which already are suffering in a fall in donations because of the credit crunch.”
GCA spokesperson Gillie Westwood said: “We hope that our people will embrace it wholeheartedly.”
Further information and the POS can be obtained from the HTA, GCA and Greenfingers websites.
