BESTSELLERS - The UK Garden Centre Charts

Weekending Sunday 02/03/2010

All coming up seedlings

The Garden Products Chart took a modest dip of 3% this week but lagged 38% behind the same week last year. Continuing cold wet weather compared to last year’s more favourable conditions may account for it. There have been some good increases on individual products, though. Our Highest Climber, up 20 places to No.13, is the Stewarts 38cm Standard Seed Tray, a sure indicator of propagation well under way.

In the same sub-category, the Highest New Entry of the week is Stewart’s 52cm Gravel Tray (no holes, black), which enters at No.40.

Highest Re-Entry is one of last season’s popular lines, the Revolution Chinese Solar Lantern, back in the chart at No.21. It may not mean that gardeners are to sitting out just yet, but, attracted by this colourful merchandising, they’ll want to be ready when the sun does comes out.

Solo gains

Growing media is the only chart to show a gain week-on-week. With a decent life of 8% on last week and the gap on last year closing to under 50%, this is clearly a strong category and an indication that other growing-related areas will start to pick up. Highest Climber is Scotts 50L Levington Multi Purpose Compost, which flies up 21 places to sit at No.20. This week’s Highest Re-Entry is Kyoto Bonsai Compost, straight back in the chart
at No.44.
